Beer of the week-Key Lime Sublime

It’s time for another Beer of the Week. This weeks beer is from 7venth Sun in Dunedin Florida. 7venth Sun is owned by Huck’s buddy. He was in town for the Jupiter Beer Festival this past weekend.

I would also like to point out, I am not an expert on beer. The Beer of the Week is my way of learning more about beer. I figured while I was learning, I could teach others, too. And this helps me remember what I learned!

This weeks beer is Key Lime Sublime. I believe this is a good beer/style for beginners, if you like sour flavors.

About the Brewery- 7venth Sun

Owners Devon and Justin opened 7venth Sun January, 7 2012. Devon has a degree from Oregon State in Fermentation Science (where was that major when I was in college!!!) She has worked with Anheuser-Busch and Sweetwater Brewing in Atlanta. Justin has worked for Sweetwater and Cigar City in Tampa.

They operate a 4.5 barrel system in the storefront location located in Dunedin, just outside of Tampa.

Style- Berliner Weisse

Berliner Weisse are in the Sour Ale category of beers. As you properly guessed from the name, it has a sour, tart flavor. They are traditionally light in color and are clear to hazy in clarity. There is very little to no hop bitterness. The mouth feel should be light, dry, and highly carbonated. The ABV levels are low ranging from 2.8-3.8. This is a great wheat beer for a hot summer day on the beach.

Food Pairing

The Berliner Weisse is a light bodied beer. It is easily overpowered by big flavor foods. Avoid smoked meats or strong flavors. Mild fish and salads are recommended. French Fries and ceviche were also a nice pairing.

What I Think

Key Lime Sublime had great flavor and smell. You could really taste the tartness from the limes. The mouthfeel was light with a high carbonation. I like sour and tart flavors, and I really enjoyed this beer. The first beer I ever made was a Key Lime Wheat.

What Huck Thinks

I am going to be very bias.  Justin and Devon are great.  Here is my honest opinion.  The beer is hazy with a white head.  The lime is not overpowering.  This beer is tart but not overly tart.   Higher carbonation makes this it really pop. This is an easy drinking beer.  I would like to ask them some questions on how they made some of the flavors shine (Just from a brewers view).
