Hugging Waterfalls

(FYI! If you would like to make the pictures large, just right click on them!)

If you missed my other post from our trip, make sure you check them out too.

Saturday started early. Chris and Lisa had a bunch on the agenda for us to do, so we got an early start.

We started our day with a visit to a frozen waterfall. Gooseberry Falls to be exact!

Chris and Lisa brought their snowshoes. They came in handy because everything was covered in ice.

IMG_8084

After strapping on my goofy shoes, we made our way to the upper falls.

The waterfall was covered in ice, but the water was still moving under the ice we were walking on. There was a few places where you could see the water under the ice.

IMG_8106

We were walking over the river. I got a little freaked out thinking about falling through.

Huck wrote this!—->Huck’s clubhouse even though Chris a.k.a. Fugger got there first.

IMG_8121

Huck took this picture laying on his back. It looks like the water is coming over the side, but really it’s ice. Thankfully none of the pieces fell off.

IMG_8128

We walked down to the lower falls.

Yes, we are standing on the river!!

And no, I did not raise my leg on purpose. Not really sure why I did it.

This is what the falls looks like in the Spring…

IMG_8184

The picture of Huck and I is taken in front of the same waterfall! Crazy right??

After leaving Gooseberry Falls, we headed to Duluth, MN.

IMG_8226

Lake Superior was frozen solid.

IMG_8227

Once we arrived in Duluth, we went to Fitger Brewing Company.

IMG_8233

We sampled all the beers and ordered some food.

IMG_8236

We sampled lots of beer, by the way.

IMG_8238

I started with the Vegetarian Chili. We were convinced there was meat in it.

IMG_8243

Lisa ordered The Pub Style Harvest Moon Wild Rice Burger. The burger was made with Minnesota wild rice. It was really tasty. The heart shaped Chipotle Pepper Sauce was a nice touch.

IMG_8244

I ordered the Lake Superior Smoked Fish Wrap. It came with the same rice Lisa’s burger was made with.

IMG_8245

Huck ordered the Northern Waters Salmon Burger. It was make with local salmon and topped with a wasabi mayo.

IMG_8246

Chris ordered the Elk Burger. The Elk was also locally raised and was topped with a Woodford Reserve bourbon mustard.

IMG_8247

The great thing about Chris, Lisa, and Huck, they are all OK with me taking pictures of their food and up for sharing. Everyone cut their food into fourths, so we could try everything.

IMG_8248

Fitger’s had good beer and good food! All the beers I tried were great and all the food was delicious. After sampling all their beers, I ordered the Edmund Imperial Stout.

If you’re bored, read the history of Fitger Brewing Company. It is pretty interesting. They started brewing beer in 1881, and stayed open thru prohibition.

After lunch, we walked on the lake.

IMG_8258

That is a bunch of frozen water!!

IMG_8260

My hair was doing something crazy… And no one told me!

IMG_8262

We found a Lighthouse!

IMG_8263

IMG_8266

Walking on the rocks to the lake was scary. We’re lucky no one broke their ankle!

IMG_8277

We let the guys walk on ice first to test it out.

Huck and Chris walked inside the building. It freaked them out when they seen open water inside. Lisa and I decided looking in from the outside was good enough.

IMG_8315

This picture was taken right as I slipped on the ice and almost busted my face! Luckily, Huck caught me!

IMG_8317

I had to stop and take a picture of the car with icicles! Not something I see every day!

I’ll be back tomorrow with our last day in MN. We may have acted like 5 year olds 🙂

RECIPE TIME!!

I have a super easy recipe to share with you tonight. Recipe may by pushing it.

It is a cute way to treat your honey tomorrow for Valentines Day without much effort.

The Lazy Chocolate Covered Strawberry text

The Lazy Chocolate Covered Strawberry

Makes 1 serving

  • 1 Container Chocolate Pudding- Cold
  • Strawberries- Sliced

Place pudding in a nice glass. Hide pudding container in trash. Top with Strawberries and serve. Tell your honey you spent hours making homemade pudding! 😉

ENJOY!!

I didn’t even post this in my new recipe developer. I wanted to insure no trees died for such a simple none recipe.

It’s really was good though. I like Chocolate Pudding. Growing up my Mom use to bake a pie crust and full it with Chocolate Pudding. Pudding Pie was one of my favorite desserts growing up! I may have to post that as my next None Recipe, Recipe!

Really, you can put anything in a nice Martini glass and it looks like an elegant dessert!

Some other idea could be: Ice Cream, Key Lime Flavored Yogurt and Crumbled Graham Crackers, Fruit Salad… That’s all I can come up with for now!

Oh, I went to the Dollar Store today and bought some stuff for the blog, like the glasses and poster boards (background). I did not know the Dollar Store was so popular the day before Valentines Day!
