German Potato Salad
Warm German Potato Salad made with Apple Cider Vinegar, Beer, and Bacon. Great for a get together as the weather cools off or perfect paired with your favorite German dish.
Guten Tag!
Being from the South, Potato Salad reminds me of barbeque or cookouts. Every cookout has at least one bowl of potato salad on the table. It’s not something I usually make during the cooler months. Now that I live in South Florida, I can make it year around, but as my Facebook page fills with pictures of people in their boots and sweaters, I start craving warm weather foods. It doesn’t matter if it’s still 90 degrees outside.
Warm German Potato Salad was one of the first recipes I shared when I started blogging, a LONG time ago. My first blog was all about recipes made with beer. That’s literally all I posted, a recipe and maybe a picture. A couple of my post have a sentence or two about the food. Boy how things have changed!
This recipe is perfect when the weather starts to cool off. You can pair this with pork chops or sausage and the nastiest food in the world Sauerkraut. That’s how Huck was forced to eat it as a child. I actually received a beer to sample from Bison Brewery for their Rye Red Ale, and thought about using it to make a Ruben. I thought I could try to make my own Sauerkraut, and maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. After I looked at a few recipes, I quickly changed my mind. It’s honestly the only food I refuse to eat! BLAH!
I made this with a Light Lager {that comes in a Blue can}. Don’t judge me! It’s the only non-IPA we had. And it did the job. A regular lager or a light wheat beer would work well, too.
Other Beers to Try:
- Any Domestic Lager or Light Lager
- Boston Lager- Samuel Adams
- Shift Pale Lager- New Belgium
West Palm Beach Oktoberfest
Friday night, Huck, Deena, Alex, and I went to the 41st Oktoberfest at the American German Club. This was our second year going to Oktoberfest in WPB, and just as much fun. Who knew dancing to German music could be so much fun.
Huck dressed in his finest lederhosen… Oma would be proud!
We ate German Food…
And the boys went for a plane ride…
How they fit in those little seats is beyond me!
Of course, I spent the whole night planning our trip to Oktoberfest NEXT YEAR!! Which I said last year! The boys spent their evening drinking boots and steins full of Jai Alai. Needless to say, the night ended early for everyone.
Until next year!
- 6-8 Potatoes- Diced {Peeling Optional}
- 4 Slices Uncooked Bacon
- 1/2 Medium Onion- Diced
- 1 Garlic Clove- Chopped
- 2 Tablespoon Flour
- 1 Tablespoon Whole Grain Mustard
- 1 Cup Beer
- 3 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- Add diced Potatoes to boiling, salted, water, and cook until tender.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Chop uncooked bacon and add to the pan. Cook until desired crispness. Remove Bacon from pan, but leave the grease.
- Add onions and garlic to pan and cook until tender, about 3-5 minutes.
- Once Onions and Garlic are tender, add Flour and stir to fully coat veggies, then add the mustard, beer, and vinegar to the pan whisking the ingredients together to prevent lumps from the flour. {I mixed the wet ingredients together first before adding to the pan. It was easier}
- Add Potatoes to the mixture and combine. Serve warm.

Tell the boys know how Cute they looked flying in those little planes, and Huck always looks Cute in his German outfit. Love and Miss You Both, Mom
